As you guys know, we like our music over hear at Insider. Recently we’ve given away the exclusive and frankly amazing Tom Middleton CDs from the Untitled event and have seen the introduction of an eclectic and cool selection of albums hand picked by proper experts that need to be on your winter playlist. So it was no surprise that when we heard Swear was launching its own collection of greatest hits we couldn’t get down there quick enough.

It turns out that The Greatest Hits Collection showcases the best of Swear through a capsule collection of timeless designs. This is set off each season by the lookbook for the collection which takes the form of a CD containing, as Swear themselves so eloquently put it, “a bunch of bands we like” and a booklet in which the artists featured on the CD wear their Swears. But this isn’t a case of a brand cynically jumping on the cool new music bandwagon – Swear has grown up with the London music scene at its feet to the point where no gig is complete without half the crowd, and the bands, wearing the brand.

For this season’s capsule collection the line-up includes Vincent Vincent and the Villains, Stricken City, S.C.U.M, Kasms, Comanechi and Dear Thief who form the ultimate musical backdrop to the superb, quirky and off-beat footwear Swear creates. We can’t wait to set our eyes, and ears, on next season’s lookbook...

Do you swear by your Swears? And who’s the coolest band you’ve seen wearing the brand? Be our eyes and ears on the ground in the comments...

Did you wake up this morning thinking you’d rather no go in to work? Did you hear the alarm go off and pull the covers over your head in a vain attempt to keep the week from starting? Well if you did, allow us to offer something in the way of comfort, or at least escapism, with this fantastic Ferris Bueller’s Day Off t-shirt, part of our new range of tees centred on all your favourite childhood memories.

The range includes the Rubik’s Cube number we showed you last week plus hits like Bananaman, The Flintstones, Sonic the Hedgehog and king of cool, The Fonz on a Happy Days style. Whatever you were in to when you were younger, you’ll find a suitable nostalgic tee.

But back to Bueller. Just make sure the next time you ring in sick that you’re channelling the man himself by wearing your Ferris Bueller’s Day Off t-shirt.

Found it hard getting out of bed this morning? Contemplated more than sitting in front of Jeremy Kyle for your skive? And how didn’t Matthew Broderick’s career take off after this film? Solve the mystery in the comments...

Denim is great. Versatile, hard-wearing, rich in heritage and iconic. But there can be times when putting on a pair of jeans just becomes the default, dare we say it boring, option, hence our statement above. And going back to slacks (or to them for the first time in some cases) wouldn’t be the same without Farah.

One of a bevy of old school brands to be brought back from a style hiatus in recent times, Farah is famous for its trousers or slacks as they would have called them back in the ‘20s Texas when the label was born. It took until the early seventies for us Brits to get a piece of the orange tab action but once we did there was no stopping us with everyone from mods to skins finding a place in their wardrobes for a great pair of well-cut Farah slacks.

We’re not saying it’s the end of the line for your denim but just think twice before pulling them on in the morning, it might be the perfect time to slack off with Farah.

Ever considered slacks?
When you think of winter colours what comes to mind? The muted yellows and reds of fallen leaves, the brown of bark or the deep green of moss? Well it’s time to think again, at least where your pants are concerned as Diesel have developed a range of underwear in striking enough colours to brighten up any dark and dreary winter day.

Hot on the heels of the grand unveiling of our latest winter trends we thought it would be a good time to delve a little deeper into the inspiration behind them by grilling the man at the design helm here at ASOS, Ian Bryder, Head of Menswear Design and the brains behind the trends, Cutting Edge and B-Movie. Just so we’re all on the same page, click here to check out the feature but do be sure to rush on back to find out even more.

Looking into his fashion crystal ball six months ahead (with a huge amount of research and design development behind it too), Ian plots out what the ASOS man will look like in the future. It’s no quick process either – Ian and his team take time out to “really look at what’s going on at street level, what music people are listening to, who’s saying what on blogs and what people are wearing” to get to grips with the ASOS man.

Taking trips and getting out-and-about are important too as “creating something a bit different can come from a very small trigger” – Ian has always got to be ready for that all important flash of inspiration.

For this winter Ian has been thinking a lot about returning to a traditional tailored look but with contemporary cuts which gave rise to Cutting Edge. Definitely not a pastiche of the Savile Row of old, this is tailoring for the modern, younger man but with all the quality and finishing one would expect to find on the famous street. “There’s a subtle Scandinavian feel to the cuts and fabric with Cutting Edge” said Ian. “It’s the kind of look you can wear to work but that’ll still look sharp after hours too – they’re suits for guys who don’t have to wear them.” Think the way Marc Ronson rocks his two-piece and you’re getting close.

Have a guess how much the grey suit up there is. We think you’ll be so pleasantly surprised that the money you’ll save could always be put towards one of the range of crisp shirts and slim ties to complete your Cutting Edge look.

On the other hand this winter, Ian has been watching a lot of vintage British and Hammer Horror movies and researching the rock ‘n’ roll scene here in Blighty. The Clash in their post-punk days, The Leather Boys and Psychomania all nail the B-Movie look, full of full-on machismo, showing off and rebellious attitude.

“The leather jacket is key to the look – our guys says ‘I look great in my leather so why wear anything else?’ It’s all very peacocky, a bit sexy and showy” Ian comments. “B-Movie is about not trying too hard, putting on your skinny trousers, a slightly dressier shirt and a pointed Chelsea boot and showing off a little”.

B-Movie posters and biker cafe signage filter down into the trend, turning into bold graphic t-shirts. Checks on shirts and wet-look nylon jackets are also key, adding texture to the hard-rocking biker, rock ‘n’ roll look. Happy Days this certainly is not.

Now it’s all down to you to get choosing which trend you’ll go for. Will it be the crisp sophistication of Cutting Edge or the attitude-packed B-Movie. And what’s to say you can’t mix them up a bit? Whichever you plump for you can be sure your look this festive season will be an on-trend Christmas cracker.

With such strong winter trends to sink our teeth into, we can’t wait to find out what Ian comes up with next. Are you a cool, calm Cutting Edge guy? Or perhaps you’re a rebellious B-Movie type? Let us know in the comment section below…

Last night saw the newest addition to the Bond Street family settle in, with the brand famous for its technical fashion and Swiss Army penknives, Victorinox, opening their new swish new store. Normally at these things you tend to get a load of wags, third-rate soap stars and a huge amount of general hangers-on but not for Victorinox.

No only did model and all-round lovely person Jodie Kidd go along to check the new store out but legends like outdoorsman and survival expert Ray Mears, Beijing Olympic gold medal-winning heroes Tom James (rowing), Jamie Staff and Geraint Thomas (cycling) and multi-medal winning rower Matthew Pincent also dropped in to get hands on with all the cool new clothes and gadgets they had in store.

And as if that wasn’t enough, the great and good of the fashion world were there with designer Giles Deacon popping by wearing his trademark oversized specs and then making off with a hefty goody bag. As the beer, wine and cocktails flowed and the amazing canapés scoffed, the assembled crowd were treated to a vertical catwalk with Victorinox-clad parkour experts being suspended Mission Impossible style by wires and raised up and lowered whilst making some serious shapes.

The best bit is that you don't even need to make the trip to Bond Street to get your hands on some Victorinox - you can get your fix right here. It’s good to know that all the collection works hard on both the fashion and function fronts, even if you’re not planning on parkouring or abseiling this weekend with Victorinox you’ll have all the bases covered.

Ever tried parkour?
When you think of Italian fashion what comes to mind? Armani? Dolce & Gabbana? Diesel, who incidentally are running a cracking competition to get styled up by their experts in their swanky Bond Street store with 500 quid to spend? Well yes, you probably do but the thing that underpins Italian fashion is ultimate quality. Suits, shoes and accessories are all made to some of the highest standards going, and this is where a small brand like Anderson’s comes in.

They’ve been making top-notch belts since way back in 1966. Thankfully as the England team has got worse they’ve just got better and better, skilfully mixing artisan leather working techniques with modern design and colour. It’s impossible not to appreciate the quality of the belts, and they’ll certainly pass the test of time on both the wear and tear and fashion fronts. The beauty of their range is that there really is something for all tastes and looks, from the classic cream style with the contrast tan trim to the expressive multi coloured style with black trim. After all, an Italian product wouldn’t be an Italian product if it wasn’t classic and expressive at the same time.

Love your Italian brands? How high up the fashion list is quality for you? And got any styling tips for nailing the Italian look? Speak your mind in the comments section below...

As you must now be aware there’s a very important decision being made on the other side of the pond today. No, not whether the Celtics are going to overturn the Rockets in the NBA tonight, but who will be the next President of the United States and who will therefore have quite a lot of say about quite a lot of things that happen in the world.

Thankfully we’re not that in to politics but what we are in to is good old fashioned fashion which is where this t-shirt from Junk Food comes in. Taking its inspiration from the classic campaign trail graphics candidates of old plastered across the country, the t-shirt will truly show who you’re supporting in the race to The White House. Having said that, we’re not quite sure who this Mike Hunt chap is but he sounds like a top guy and a much better bet than either Mr. McCain or Mr. Obama.

Been following the election trail? Could give a monkey’s? Know who this mysterious Mike Hunt is?
He likes to keep us on the edge of our seats doesn’t he? Twelve months or so after he snatched defeat from the jaws of victory as he beached it in China, Lewis Hamilton brought it home not exactly in style but just enough to secure the Championship. But boy did he leave it late, passing Timo Glock on the last corner of the last lap of the last race of the 2008 F1 season to secure fifth place that saw him beat Felipe Massa by 1 whole point. But Lewis wouldn’t be Lewis if it wasn’t exciting to the end.

His team, McLaren Mercedes, have supported him since he was a little lad (remember our post about him a little while ago with the video of him taking the field apart in his karting days?) and we’re sure have decked him out in some great Hugo Boss gear over the years, the brand being a team sponsor and all.
We thought you might like to hear about an exciting new range we’ve recently launched on the site. Taking inspiration from US colleges, the rugged outdoors and the old fashioned American road trip, ASOS Laundered is a washed down, well-loved and easy-to-wear classic menswear collection for guys who don’t need to try too hard. So pretty much all of us then. The pieces are so easy to just throw on over whatever you’re wearing that it all becomes stealth fashion – people will know you look good but you won’t be shouting about it in any way.

The quality is great with super-soft knits and sweats, high thread count cottons for shirts and vibrant colours on tees. Mix that with old Americana graphics and you’re well on the way to fine tuning your casual weekend look right up. And for when it gets a little nippier there is a great range of warm and cosy, but still razor sharp, outerwear to heat up your style as the temperature drops. Better than waiting for years for all your favourite clothes to wear in too...

Is casual the way forward for guys this season? Give us your opinions in the comments below...

Last night the great and good of the movie world converged on Leicester Square in London for the world premiere of the latest in the Bond series, the Quantum of Solace. Assuming you weren’t one of the lucky few to snag an invite (ours must have got lost in the post or something...), you’ll all be off to the cinema this weekend to check out the huge action scenes, James saving the world and the rather delectable Olga Kurylenko (time for a Google wethinks). But what to wear? Well you could do worse than making like the secret agent and getting his look. Handy then that we’ve put a couple of his looks together to make it super-easy to fix up and look sharp.

Let’s start with a classic. James is known for having an impeccable line in suits and in the Quantum of Solace he’s no different. A sharp black suit like this one from Ted Baker will start you off on the right foot. Combine that with a crisp white Tiger of Sweden shirt, a grey satin finish tie and classic Italian lace-up shoes and you’ve nailed the look. All you need now is a serious timepiece and you’re ready to take on the world, literally. OK, minus the massive Heckler & Koch UMP machine gun.

Or, if you want to take the smartness down a notch, how about discovering Sunspel, the traditional but modern brand that has been providing Bond, as well as Batman, with a variety of t-shirts and polos for yonks now? In fact, this polo is the actual style James wears in the new movie. How good is that? Worn over a simple pair of grey trousers and under a leather Harrington (ours are in much better nick than in the photo of Bond) and all you need is a pair of old school aviators (no Walther P99 required) and Miss Moneypenny won’t be able to keep her hands off you.

Looking forward to the Quantum of Solace? And who’s the best Bond ever (we know it’s Connery but play along)? Come into 007th Heaven in the comments...

Since the prehistoric era man has always tried to measure the passing of time. Starting with monitoring the movement of the sun and moon across the sky to the humble but ultimately inaccurate sundial and right up to the modern chronograph, man has steadily got to grips with measuring time over the years. The most modern way of telling the time, assuming the Tokyo Flash watches are super futuristic, is surely the LED display.

A little retro admittedly, the LED has been around for a while but it always seems to look contemporary whether it be on a digital watch or in the form of a desk clock like this one. With every guy’s home nowadays needing to look as great as he does, this is just the sort of object you need around the place. It works hard by clearly displaying the time but, unlike those terrible carriage clocks everyone else’s mums used to have when you went round for tea, it is going to look great amongst all your other modern man’s paraphernalia. And it’s a darn sight easier to use than a sundial…

Like our modern man’s gifts section on site (it’s made our present shopping a whole lot easier)?
Woke up this morning and it was dark? Yeah, us too. Pretty depressing huh? Well, allow us to brighten your life up a bit with a bag from the original sports brand, Gola. Steeped in history, the brand was born in 1905 and, although no-one can confirm this, the famous name was simply an anagram of ‘goal’ (one for the pub quiz there).

The brand has always been famous for two things: their trainers and their bags and we’ve got a huge collection of the latter to feast your eyes on. Great for adding a bit of zing to your ensemble, especially when you’re likely to be wearing some more sombre but classic colours everywhere else, the range of bags will also ensure you don’t need to fish around in the bottom of your Frosties cereal box for a small bike reflector to bee seen on the way home at night.

Stay safe, stay cool kids!

Is a brand’s heritage important to you? Do you like your snazzy accessories? And do you still have spokey-dokeys on your bike?
Hybrid fashion is the way forward this season. Mixing two garments into one means you get the best of both worlds. It has been embraced by the girls and now it’s time for us guys to get a piece of the action through the Shirt-Jacket. Part shirt and part, you guessed it, jacket, the shirt-jacket gives the crisp, smart look we’re all after but with the warmer and more sturdy fabrics of a jacket. Pretty nifty, huh?

But the best thing is, no matter how you like to wear your shirt, or jacket for that matter, we’ve got a shirt-jacket for you. From winter checked lumberjacks to slick blazers the shirt-jacket is the essential piece to have in your fashion armoury this season; it’s perfect for those days when, to sound ever so British for a moment, the weather just can’t make up its mind.

Worn over a tee, or even a similar shirt if you’re feeling brave, your look will work best if you take your cues from the shirt-jacket for the rest of your look. Team with suitable accessories and layer up for a rich, winter feel that’ll ensure you’ll look hot no matter what the weather’s doing.

Like the idea of hybrid fashion? Suggest your craziest hybrids in the comments...

Seventy years on from their creation, the loafer has (or should have) returned to the forefront on the shoe front. The style was originally adopted by the tearaway teens back in the day and became a symbol of rebellion. Today it still has a tinge of the mischievous association but has grown into a fully fledged and real shoe choice.

The style we think you can’t afford to miss this season is the tassel loafer, a simple but slightly dressier look with a jiggly frill. Both classic and modern at once, you’ll be wearing these again and again with a suit in the winter and with chinos and, if you’re feeling a little daring, no socks in the summer. A great alternative to the classic lace-up, why not try loafing around this season? You’re bound to have frilling time...

Socks or no socks with your loafers? Discuss. Join the heated debate in the comments...

We know you guys love your tees which is why we work so hard to bring you the very best t-shirts the world has to offer. Right now we have 823 different t-shirt styles ready and waiting for your wardrobe. The best thing about tees is that you’re going to get plenty of mileage out of them. After all, when isn’t a t-shirt appropriate? As we saw just the other day, you can even get away with one at a black tie event.

But sometimes we want something a little more special than your staple tee which is where our 1 of 100 range of limited edition t-shirts comes in. This is our collection of eight bold and cool printed tees which are strictly limited to, you guessed it, 100 of each of the snazzy styles above. Want something else to seal the deal? Well the fact that they’re a wallet-saving £14 should do the trick.

Which is your favourite style? Give us your valued opinion in the comments…

Maintaining the reminiscent feel to today, lets take a trip down memory lane to the early nineties when it actually snowed at Christmas and the only jacket to be seen wearing was the Puffa. Known at the time for its supreme warmth and fun, squishy feel, Puffa, much in the same way Hoover became the generic name for the vacuum cleaner, the brand became the byword for the big down-filled coat.

Now, after a bit of a hiatus, Puffa is back with a reworked heritage collection that harks back to the days when the brand was worn by all those in the know, including the Royals, and was seen on board the most successful powerboats and rally cars of the time. Created in the 70’s, Puffa became the essential jacket for the cognoscenti and inspired by the Puffa archive, the brand has created the heritage range, a collection with an original, authentic vintage feel with distinctive contemporary touches. With Puffa you’ve got your winter look all wrapped up.

Did you own a Puffa back in the day? Got a photo of you wearing it?
Remember the other day we gave away the Untitled mix CD put together by Tom Middleton with the help of the good people at Amoeba? Well, they’ve all gone (the winners will have their copies soon) but now we gone and got hold of an even more advanced version of the trusty mix tape, the USB mix tape.

Definitely one for those who painstakingly sat by the radio cassette player with their finger on the pause button trying to capture the top 40 before the DJ spoke, the USB Mix Tape is the best way for the modern man or woman to put into music their feelings for their loved one (wife, girlfriend, lass in accounts) on the record. Being USB, the technology is far more advanced than the old school pause / record button combo but you skill get that crafted, home-made effect that comes with the cassette. You can even hand write your tracklist on the cassette insert for extra authenticity.

Go on, give the gift of music.

How good were you at timing the Top 40? What would be the first three tracks on your mix tape? And What was the worst track anyone ever put on a mix tape for you? Wax lyrical in the comments…

Hi-Tops, much like the Harrington and the brogue, is a bit of a menswear classic. Granted, your average Harrington wearer isn’t going to be busting the hi-tops but the iconic style dispels the common misconception that where men’s clothes are concerned, classic doesn’t have to mean smart.

The t-shirt, the barrel holdall and now the hi-top all fly the flag for the casual classics. And why not, when hi-tops have been popular on the street for years? Great films like Boyz n the Hood and even Back to the Future II have raised the profile of the style to legendary status and Vision Streetwear, being the on-the-ball kinda brand it is, have come up with the Model 15000, the latest in their long line of in your face, uncompromising hi-tops.

Chunky, bold and seriously old school, with the Vision Model 15000 on your feet you certainly won’t be trippin’ anywhere.

Hi-top or low top? Retro or traditional? And how cool would it be if Nike decided to make the McFly hi-tops (BTTF, not the rubbish band)? Shout out in the comments…

The latest person of the blogging fraternity to tell us just what they think about our Untitled project is Tony, the Editor and force behind the men’s fashion blog Kit Me Out, who has taken a bit of a shine to one of the styles Fraser at Arckiv dug out for us for Untitled. Here’s what he thinks of them:

“It has been suggested that shades are for spineless freaks who haven't got the guts to face the world head-on, or perhaps even over pampered celebrities who want to disappear into their myopic self-obsessed universe. Hold on! Porsche designer eyewear is pure peeled-back poetry. The curves are every bit as seductive as the classic 911 and the look shouts "bring it on" NOT "fade away"! No one could possibly hide behind these shades. To quote the Stranglers, they "have texture like sun"... HOT!”

Think Tony’s got it right? Let us know in the comments...

But now, with the help of Jack Black, you can get great results without having to resort to raiding the nearest girl’s bathroom cabinet.

Like Jack Black?
Next to tell us what they think about the Untitled project is Isabelle O’Carroll from menswear blog Brandish. Isabelle is one of the busiest bloggers going, writing as she does for various online fashion sites including Catwalk Queen and The Bag Lady as well as Brandish. For Insider, Isabelle discusses men’s attitudes to style.

“At Brandish we've worked with Deryck Walker in the past and it's great to see up-and-coming designers like him being made available to a wider audience. The Carola Euler sweatshirt is complex without being overtly fussy and I can see that becoming an immediate bestseller.

It's a really exciting time for menswear, the very fact we are seeing collections like Untitled at Asos proves that men are becoming more interested in fashion and are unafraid of making a statement with their clothes.”

Think Isabelle’s got it right?
