As you guys know, we like our music over hear at Insider. Recently we’ve given away the exclusive and frankly amazing Tom Middleton CDs from the Untitled event and have seen the introduction of an eclectic and cool selection of albums hand picked by proper experts that need to be on your winter playlist. So it was no surprise that when we heard Swear was launching its own collection of greatest hits we couldn’t get down there quick enough.

It turns out that The Greatest Hits Collection showcases the best of Swear through a capsule collection of timeless designs. This is set off each season by the lookbook for the collection which takes the form of a CD containing, as Swear themselves so eloquently put it, “a bunch of bands we like” and a booklet in which the artists featured on the CD wear their Swears. But this isn’t a case of a brand cynically jumping on the cool new music bandwagon – Swear has grown up with the London music scene at its feet to the point where no gig is complete without half the crowd, and the bands, wearing the brand.

For this season’s capsule collection the line-up includes Vincent Vincent and the Villains, Stricken City, S.C.U.M, Kasms, Comanechi and Dear Thief who form the ultimate musical backdrop to the superb, quirky and off-beat footwear Swear creates. We can’t wait to set our eyes, and ears, on next season’s lookbook...

Denim is great. Versatile, hard-wearing, rich in heritage and iconic. But there can be times when putting on a pair of jeans just becomes the default, dare we say it boring, option, hence our statement above. And going back to slacks (or to them for the first time in some cases) wouldn’t be the same without Farah.

One of a bevy of old school brands to be brought back from a style hiatus in recent times, Farah is famous for its trousers or slacks as they would have called them back in the ‘20s Texas when the label was born. It took until the early seventies for us Brits to get a piece of the orange tab action but once we did there was no stopping us with everyone from mods to skins finding a place in their wardrobes for a great pair of well-cut Farah slacks.

We’re not saying it’s the end of the line for your denim but just think twice before pulling them on in the morning, it might be the perfect time to slack off with Farah.

Hot on the heels of the grand unveiling of our latest winter trends we thought it would be a good time to delve a little deeper into the inspiration behind them by grilling the man at the design helm here at ASOS, Ian Bryder, Head of Menswear Design and the brains behind the trends, Cutting Edge and B-Movie. Looking into his fashion crystal ball six months ahead (with a huge amount of research and design development behind it too), Ian plots out what the ASOS man will look like in the future. It’s no quick process either – Ian and his team take time out to “really look at what’s going on at street level, what music people are listening to, who’s saying what on blogs and what people are wearing” to get to grips with the ASOS man.

Taking trips and getting out-and-about are important too as “creating something a bit different can come from a very small trigger” – Ian has always got to be ready for that all important flash of inspiration.

For this winter Ian has been thinking a lot about returning to a traditional tailored look but with contemporary cuts which gave rise to Cutting Edge. Definitely not a pastiche of the Savile Row of old, this is tailoring for the modern, younger man but with all the quality and finishing one would expect to find on the famous street. “There’s a subtle Scandinavian feel to the cuts and fabric with Cutting Edge” said Ian. “It’s the kind of look you can wear to work but that’ll still look sharp after hours too – they’re suits for guys who don’t have to wear them.” Think the way Marc Ronson rocks his two-piece and you’re getting close.

Have a guess how much the grey suit up there is. We think you’ll be so pleasantly surprised that the money you’ll save could always be put towards one of the range of crisp shirts and slim ties to complete your Cutting Edge look.

On the other hand this winter, Ian has been watching a lot of vintage British and Hammer Horror movies and researching the rock ‘n’ roll scene here in Blighty. The Clash in their post-punk days, The Leather Boys and Psychomania all nail the B-Movie look, full of full-on machismo, showing off and rebellious attitude.

“The leather jacket is key to the look – our guys says ‘I look great in my leather so why wear anything else?’ It’s all very peacocky, a bit sexy and showy” Ian comments. “B-Movie is about not trying too hard, putting on your skinny trousers, a slightly dressier shirt and a pointed Chelsea boot and showing off a little”.

B-Movie posters and biker cafe signage filter down into the trend, turning into bold graphic t-shirts. Checks on shirts and wet-look nylon jackets are also key, adding texture to the hard-rocking biker, rock ‘n’ roll look. Happy Days this certainly is not.

Now it’s all down to you to get choosing which trend you’ll go for. Will it be the crisp sophistication of Cutting Edge or the attitude-packed B-Movie. And what’s to say you can’t mix them up a bit? Whichever you plump for you can be sure your look this festive season will be an on-trend Christmas cracker.

Last night saw the newest addition to the Bond Street family settle in, with the brand famous for its technical fashion and Swiss Army penknives, Victorinox, opening their new swish new store. Normally at these things you tend to get a load of wags, third-rate soap stars and a huge amount of general hangers-on but not for Victorinox.

No only did model and all-round lovely person Jodie Kidd go along to check the new store out but legends like outdoorsman and survival expert Ray Mears, Beijing Olympic gold medal-winning heroes Tom James (rowing), Jamie Staff and Geraint Thomas (cycling) and multi-medal winning rower Matthew Pincent also dropped in to get hands on with all the cool new clothes and gadgets they had in store.

And as if that wasn’t enough, the great and good of the fashion world were there with designer Giles Deacon popping by wearing his trademark oversized specs and then making off with a hefty goody bag. As the beer, wine and cocktails flowed and the amazing canapés scoffed, the assembled crowd were treated to a vertical catwalk with Victorinox-clad parkour experts being suspended Mission Impossible style by wires and raised up and lowered whilst making some serious shapes.

The best bit is that you don't even need to make the trip to Bond Street to get your hands on some Victorinox - you can get your fix right here. It’s good to know that all the collection works hard on both the fashion and function fronts, even if you’re not planning on parkouring or abseiling this weekend with Victorinox you’ll have all the bases covered.

When you think of Italian fashion what comes to mind? Armani? Dolce & Gabbana? Diesel, who incidentally are running a cracking competition to get styled up by their experts in their swanky Bond Street store with 500 quid to spend? Well yes, you probably do but the thing that underpins Italian fashion is ultimate quality. Suits, shoes and accessories are all made to some of the highest standards going, and this is where a small brand like Anderson’s comes in.

They’ve been making top-notch belts since way back in 1966. Thankfully as the England team has got worse they’ve just got better and better, skilfully mixing artisan leather working techniques with modern design and colour. It’s impossible not to appreciate the quality of the belts, and they’ll certainly pass the test of time on both the wear and tear and fashion fronts. The beauty of their range is that there really is something for all tastes and looks, from the classic cream style with the contrast tan trim to the expressive multi coloured style with black trim.
