Join us, if you will, on a trip to the West Coast of Ireland. Not renowned for being a hotbed of the fashion world admittedly but over that way you’ll find a little place called Aran. Aran is the birthplace of the famous style of knitting (don’t worry, we’ll get on to the blokey bit in a minute) where the wives of fishermen knit their hard-working, hard-as-nails husbands chunky sweaters that mix different styles of cable knit in one great jumper. This is as classic and humble as fashion gets.
And this putty coloured v-neck from Pringle is a great example of how this traditional technique can be brought up to date by a famous fashion brand. Think of it as the sort of jumper your grandma might have knitted for you minus the ugly colours and with a real design edge. Boasting a laurel wreath style neck section and a criss-cross effect on the body, this sweater will be equally at home on the windy moors as out on the town and looks great, as we’ve done here, with a simple white t-shirt underneath – after all, you don’t want to get all hot under the collar now do you?
Where do you stand on knitwear? Like it chunky or fine? Know any other random fashion origins like the ladies from Aran? Share your knowledge below.

I prefer the fine knit myself, a nice finely knitted v neck :)

I'm loving this jumper from Pringle. I like both kind of knits, as a slim guy I do like a good chunky knit as it beefs you up somewhat!
