For every year since who knows how long (182 years if you must know) Cowes on the Isle of Wight has hosted the world’s biggest sailing regatta. A hugely important summer sporting occasion, over one thousand boats take part in the event and is as famous for its social side as it is for its sailing.

But you won’t be able to just turn up and blag your way onto a yacht to rub shoulders with all the beautiful people in any old clothes. You’ll have to look the part which is why we’ve put together a fool-proof look which will get you past even the most eagle-eyed security guard.

Start off with a preppy button-down collar fine striped shirt from Tommy Hilfiger. Tuck it into a pair of classic Dockers trousers fastened with a smart interlink belt. Roll up the hems on your trouser legs just the once to show off your new Sperry deck shoes and then casually throw a cream Day Birger et Mikkelsen blazer over one shoulder.
